Car buyer swindled in online auction

A Todd County resident who tried to buy a vehicle from overseas via an auction Web site was scammed in a bogus deal.

The buyer reported the e-mail scam Friday to the Todd County Sheriff’s Office. The buyer lost $4,000 in the fraudulent transaction, according to deputies.

The Todd County Sheriff’s Office warns people not to send money overseas in deals that sound too good to be true.

Cops say man used fake name for construction company scams

NEWBURGH — A man who state police said set up several construction companies using a fake name and scammed customers out of several hundred thousand dollars is in Ulster County Jail on $5,000 bail.

Kevin Reptke, 46, of Wappingers Falls, was arrested on Wednesday, the culmination of a two-year state and federal investigation. State police said Reptke, using the alias Eric R. Holland, used the companies over a six-year period to set up land deals and construction contracts that he failed to honor.

WOODBURN, Ore. - A travel agent who police say scammed people into purchasing flights that he never actually booked is being sought in both Marion and Washington counties.

Salvador Rodriguez-Meza used to work for Costa Azul Travel in Woodburn but has since fled.  Police believe he conned customers into handing over cash payments for airline tickets and then took off with the money.
