Gregg F. Brie, a self-proclaimed philanthropist, pleaded guilty this morning to a felony theft charge and agreed to repay hundreds of thousands of dollars to nearly two dozen people.
In pleading guilty to second-degree grand larceny, Brie admitted he stole $130,000 from a 69-year-old Ramapo woman in a loan scam.
He told her he was going to use the funds to help others repay their mortgages, but told the court had financial problems and used the money for himself instead.
