Police in Dutchess say cashiers are being scammed
POUGHKEEPSIE - Town police are searching for two suspects in connection with an ongoing scam that has been occurring at businesses along the U.S. Route 9 business corridor.
Police said the suspects approach cashiers, asking for change for either a $10 or $100 bill, then, when the cashier opens the register drawer, “the suspect uses quick hand movements to confuse” him or her before reaching into the drawer and “making a mess of the bills.”
After the suspects claim, “I am short, you owe me,” and leave, the cashiers find themselves short on money, according to police.
